My Adoption Journey

For well over a year now, I have not actively sought financial support through the GoFundMe page. Although the page remains online, I have not promoted it or requested new donations. This decision comes from a place of reflection and growth in my journey.

Over time, I realized this journey was not only about adopting a child. In many ways, it became about adopting myself—learning who I am, who I want to be, and growing into the person and parent I hope to become. This is not just the story of building a family. I used to think that to be effective in advocating for children, I had to fight loudly and aggressively. Now I understand that strength can be steady and regulated. Calm, consistent advocacy often opens more doors than confrontation. It builds relationships with families, social workers, and courts that lead to better decisions for children.

Together, one child at a time, one family at a time, we can make a difference.

Becoming a caregiver and mentor has made me a stronger child advocate. It has also deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by foster parents and kinship caregivers. These roles require more than just providing shelter or supervision. They demand emotional resilience, legal awareness, and a commitment to unconditional support.

This reality challenges the assumption that adoption or foster care is always a 'rescue.' It reminded me that loving a child and being capable of parenting a child are not always the same thing.

Child welfare is a complex field that demands patience, knowledge, and empathy. My journey taught me that protecting children is not just about removing them from harm but about supporting their long-term well-being in a system that is often slow and imperfect.
