An Update on My Legal Support Fundraiser on GoFundMe

When I first started my journey through visitation, custody, and adoption, I quickly realized how complex and costly the legal side could be. After years of focusing on volunteer work and service, I was unprepared for the steep expenses involved just to understand the legal system and get reliable advice. That’s why I created a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost of legal consultations.

Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, I was able to connect with attorneys, ask important questions, and gain a clearer understanding of child welfare, foster care, and adoption. This guidance shaped how I approach this journey today, and I remain deeply grateful for everyone who contributed during that time.

How Your Support Made a Difference

The donations I received through GoFundMe, combined with funds raised from digital downloads, helped raise $2,178 specifically for legal consultations and guidance. This financial support was crucial because:

• It allowed me to speak directly with experienced attorneys.

• I could ask detailed questions about visitation rights, custody laws, and adoption procedures.

• It helped me understand the realities and challenges within the child welfare system.

• It gave me confidence to make informed decisions moving forward.

  
  

Without this support, navigating the legal system would have been far more overwhelming and much slower. Your generosity helped turn uncertainty into clarity and gave me the opportunity to better understand the process, advocate for what I believe is in the child’s best interest, and ultimately obtain visitation rights with my nephew — despite appearing in court without an attorney and facing multiple attorneys who opposed my involvement.

Why I’m No Longer Actively Fundraising on GoFundMe

For well over a year now, I have not actively sought financial support through the GoFundMe page. Although the page remains online, I have not promoted it or requested new donations. This decision comes from a place of reflection and growth in my journey.

The legal consultations I needed have been covered, and I want to focus on building a sustainable way to support others facing similar challenges. That means shifting my energy toward creating resources and community support through my nonprofit organization.
